jdgo, it would be great if you could give a more descriptive introduction of your search engine. I'd hate to have to prune this post off, but without a little discussion about your search engine, I will have treat it as a just a random ad.

I'll keep my eye out for more info/discussion, otherwise this post will be gone ;)

Yes I do:
-What does it take to be listed in your directory (so not via Google or so)
-What makes one score better or worse in your directory?
-How often is it updated?

Hi Anonymous ;)
Popularity seems to be a dangerous thing. You can't get high before you are found a few times even if you would be very relevant to the search. After all, a new site is not popular yet, so it ends up low, so it won't be found easily, so it won't be popular, so it will stay low. That's what my logic tells me at least.. Besides, there's nothing in your code that allows you to measure clicks, so how can you tell which is popular and which not?

And this is what I mean if you only count that to rank high. A simple technique just ranks you higher. And this is a technique that is not used by genuinely honest people..
I admit, Google suffers from this as well, but they have a lot more criteria to rank sites.

when you say popularity is determined by links. Linke with better pagerank would help your standings better right?
