#1 In Google and MSN, but not in top 10 in Yahoo, why ?!

Post by wannaknow » Tue Apr 18, 2006 6:13 pm

My site is #1 in Google
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=pagerank+toplist

and MSN
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=pa ... &FORM=QBHP

but in Yahoo
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=pagera ... =&ei=UTF-8
only #12

I have many quality inbound links, i wonder why ranking in Yahoo is different ?

Yahoo may not have indexed all of the sites linking to you as yet. You can also submit a site map to Yahoo for better indexing of your site

I've found that Yahoo tends to rank sites with a high quantity of inbound links very highly, whereas Google will look more for relevancy of quality of links. Not sure you even need links to rank well in MSN :D

Hi,

google , yahoo , and msn have a different Search Algorithms

To get good ranking on google and msn its relatively easy,at least in my experience.Sure more easy than yahoo/Altavista.

The reason seats in the different matching criteria that they use.

google and msn work on partial matching:this means that they recognize also a "partial" keyword, for instance, the word "magazine" in the world "magazines",making so no difference between singular or plural keywords.Or recognize partially a keyphrase: The word "magazine" in the phrase "american magazine" for instance.

yahoo/Altavista instead, work on exact match: they recognize only an exact keyword or keyphrase:"magazine" on "magazine";"american magazine" on "american magazine" ;"magazines" for instance represents completely another match.

Moreover for spam reason google ignores meta tags such as description and probably (but not sure)keywords tags. While for yahoo they are very important;I had a page ranked in first position for a good keyword without content except tags.

Different are also ranking criteria and algos but here I cannot be more accurate

Yahoo uses a differnet ranking algorithm, we have some websites that ranked very well in Yahoo and not in Google and the opposite.
They may be (aside from the fact that YAhoo tends to be more of on-page kinda engine) did not index your backlinks yet since google bot and yahoo bot are different
SEO software That works

Actually, there answers are all correct. Those search engines have different algorithm which in fact there is a case also that you will rank no. 1 in Yahoo but you don't even get to top ten in google.

MSn is now Bing. Both Yahoo and Bing show same results.

Each Search Engine creates their own algo to get the best results. So it's hard to rank in the top 10 of all of them, better to pick one and try to rank as better as you can.
